TRUST
Often when I think of the word “trust,” I think of those movie scenes where someone is about to fall off some building or cliff, and is hanging on for dear life. And then, out of nowhere, a character reaches out their hand and says, “Grab my hand! Trust me! I got you!” The character, who thought his life was about to end, then grabs the hand and puts their complete trust in the one saving them from death. What a beautiful picture that is.
When we put our complete trust and faith in the Lord, we are saved from eternal death. But trusting in the Lord doesn’t end there. It is ongoing. I am reminded in scripture of when Peter walks on water.
Matthew 14:28-33 says:
28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
As Peter was focused on Jesus, he could do the unthinkable. But the moment Peter focused on the things around him instead of on the one who matters, he began to sink. BUT even in the sinking, Jesus was there. Jesus immediately reached out His hand and caught him.
Maybe you feel like you are sinking; reach up and grab Jesus’ hand. He is trustworthy. And the cool thing is God does not change who He is. Our circumstances do not define God. He alone is trustworthy yesterday, today, and forever. So, in every situation, focus on Jesus because He has this. He is TRUSTWORTHY.
