1 John 1:1-4

Passage
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

Commentary
What do you believe? Every day in America, people share their opinions of what they believe. Sometimes they share things that are polluted with falsified information or not the whole truth. But, no matter what people believe, their belief affects how they live. What does your life show people about what you believe to be true?

In today’s passage, John is unpacking the truth for the people he is writing to in this letter. John fully believes Jesus came into this world to rescue the world from the curse of sin. Because Jesus has conquered our sins and death, we now have fellowship and communion with God.

Application

The first chapter of 1 John has a lot of great information and words that help believers form their belief system. Over these past seven days, you have been praying, examining your walk with God, and trusting God as we prepare for the next steps in our renovation process. But before we begin praying over specific points (which starts Tuesday, April 11), take five to ten minutes to sit down and write down what you believe to be true about God, Jesus, the Bible, Holy Spirit, and about your salvation. Use this information to begin to form what you believe.

Prayer

Pray today, thanking Jesus for what he has done in your life.
Pray for a chance today or this week to share the Easter Story with someone.
Pray for this Sunday, as we make a decision about the finances for the Renovation Project.
